Piyush Mallick – Class of 2026 - attending Harvard University
SAGE is proud to announce Piyush Mallick, graduate of the Class of 2026 Grapevine High School ASPIRE Academy, as one of two recipients of our $1,000 Senior Scholarship.
This award recognizes graduating seniors who best exemplify the qualities of a Gifted and Talented learner. Using a pre-approved rubric, SAGE Lifetime members reviewed each applicant to identify students who exemplify the deep exploration and leadership qualities of a GT learner.
In his scholarship application, Piyush demonstrated the intellectual depth and self-directed initiative that define the GT experience:
"Mathematics became my lens of viewing the brain, taking me to the International Science & Engineering Fair for my novel algorithm analyzing neural patterns in the zebra finch brain. In college, I want to study with people equally obsessed with mathematical connections to biology and neuroscience, just like the neural manifold. I’ve found that the most satisfying learning happens at these sorts of intersections, and I want to spend four years finding more of them."
Piyush also shared about a learning opportunity for leadership and community building:
"But I'd learned something earlier from founding the Science Olympiad team without a coach: you don't wait for infrastructure to appear through external intervention, you take initiative and build it yourself. Determined to help other students learn, I organized study sessions; I taught myself the remaining material in the Java language, leading the Computer Science team through UIL competitions... Gradually, those sessions grew into something resembling the class we no longer had. When March arrived, we were prepared despite having no formalized external instruction, and we won Runner-Up Team at UIL Regionals as a result."
Congratulations, Piyush, on this well-deserved honor!
