SAGE School Year Recap (2024-2025)
At SAGE, we believe it's important to share what we've been working on to support the GT community. The Grapevine-Colleyville SAGE (Supporting and Advocating for Gifted Education) group had a really busy and successful school year. We focused on bringing our community together, speaking up for gifted education, and giving a helping hand to our students and teachers. We accomplish all of this through dedicated volunteers and donors. Last year, we raised over $3,000 just during North Texas Giving Day.
We want to hear from the GT Community
What do you feel are priorities and concerns for the GT Community this school year? You are welcome to email info@gc-sage.org or as a Member, you should have a survey in your Inbox that asks more specific questions about priorities and program ideas.
And of course, if you're connected to any of the SAGE Board members, we would love to hear from you. Check out the NEW 2025-26 SAGE Board here.
Examples of Activities and Advocacy from 2024-25 School Year:
- Supporting Students and Teachers: We were so proud to award two $1,000 senior scholarships to graduating students, Lilli Cunningham and Nicole Namy. We also had eight amazing educators nominated for the annual Sherry Hamilton Memorial GT Educator of the Year Award. The winner of that award will get $500! Stay tuned, announcement coming very soon!
- Speaking Up for Our Kids: SAGE was actively involved in important conversations this year. We shared the official district response to questions from the gifted community, especially about some changes to the GT specialist roles. Through our ongoing partnership with the Advanced Academics team, we created new information to help families understand the GT identification process and the different tests involved.
- Fun Events and Community Building: We hosted a bunch of events to help families connect and get resources.
- Fundraisers: We raised more than $3,000 through a mix of fun fundraising events at Raising Cane's, Painting with a Twist, Chicken n Pickle, and Dave & Busters. We also held a "Dinner's on Us" fundraiser in April-May to deliver meals to teachers at the end of the year.
- Socials: Both the annual Back-to-School Pool Party and the Park Play Date in May for newly identified GT families are big hits with the elementary-age community.
- Looking Ahead: We're always working to make sure all gifted learners get the support they need to grow. This past year, we continued to share updates on the "Momentum and Roadblocks" in the GT and ASPIRE programs, focusing on making sure our kids get differentiated learning, better communication, and social-emotional support.
